Funerals are occasions of both sorrow and joy—sorrow in the face of death, and joy in Jesus’ promise of the resurrection of the body. The funeral service draws on readings from the Bible, prayers and Christian hymns. The focus is on Christ’s victory over death and the life everlasting. The Rector should be notified when a person is near death.
